Green Team Plastic Recycling Challenge

The McKay Green Team has launched its first initiative: the Trex Recycling Challenge!

We are collecting loose, stretchy plastic at school - drop off bins are located in the front office and cafeteria. Examples: ziplock bags, produce bags, grocery bags, cereal bags, plastic shipping envelopes, Amazon Prime mailers, bread bags, and bubble wrap, to name a few. If you use Ridwell, it's the same plastic that goes in your film bag! See more about it HERE. We've already collected 600lbs of plastic, well on our way to our 1,000lb goal!

Beaverton School District Long-Range Facility Planning
Between Jan-April, the district is hosting several community conversations in collaboration with BRIC to hear directly from BSD students, families, staff and community members.

The district has emphasized these conversations are not to discuss specific schools or boundaries. (That will be in the fall, per the district's timeline.) From the sessions we've attended, BRIC is looking for their "North Star" guiding values and priorities when developing their long-range plan. So while they do not want to address specific schools at this juncture, we can still very much advocate for small, community schools at these sessions. There are 2 final virtual meetings in April:

April 10th, 11:30-1:00pm; you can sign up here

April 16th, 6:30-8:00pm; you can sign up here

Who is the PTC and what do we actually do? We are parents and guardians who are committed to supporting McKay students and staff.

We organize the after-school events, fundraising activities, and volunteer opportunities throughout the school year. We meet monthly with Principal Ms. Kollings and teacher liaison Ms. Douglass to talk about both short- and long-term projects.

If you have ideas about something you'd like to see at school, please come to a meeting! All families are welcome! This is a great way to meet and connect with other families and really make a difference in our great school.

Volunteers are the heart of our PTC! There are many ways to get involved!

School Kids
Magnetic Numbers

The McKay Elementary School Parent Teacher Club recognizes the vital role we play in supporting our students and their families. We are committed to ensuring that every child in our community has an equal opportunity to thrive academically and socially, regardless of their economic background. Funds we raise throughout the year directly support a variety of critical initiatives that enrich our students' educational experiences.

Don't miss out on any of our great events this year!

School Supply
Kids with Capes

New to McKay for the 2024-25 school year, we are passionate about making sure all students have equal opportunities to succeed and that diverse perspectives are acknowledged, respected, and celebrated.
